European Commission – Innovation Radar Prize 2022

Our institution, University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences (UNSPMF) participates as a project partner within the EU H2020 ASCAPE project. ASCAPE has not only been listed in the EU Innovation Radar catalogue, but is was also selected for the short-list of the top 10 innovations during this year’s EU Innovation Radar Prize competition, under the Kickstarter category.

The ASCAPE Innovation, a Healthcare Open AI Platform, allows data collected and held at different hospitals and primary care centres as well as personal wearable devices, room sensors, and environmental or other relevant data to be used for training high-precision ML models which can provide personalised predictions about an individual’s healthcare progression, as well as evidence-based health intervention recommendations. It has been validated in the context of automated cancer patient monitoring with ML models trained from some of Europe’s leading hospitals and health services innovators.

“Lara” from the Faculty of Sciences Won the First Place in Europe

Last year in October, the team from the Faculty of Science “Pannonian Crew”, consisting of Aleksandar Rončević, Mihailo Milenković, Petar Kapriš and Vladimir Krsmanović, all attending Computer Science Program, won the first place in the national competition for best technological innovation in the category of student innovations. They developed the innovation “Lara” – a system for automatic accident detection and rescue of sailors, which consists of hardware and software systems.

These talented young people, Computer Science students, had contacts with associations such as Maker even as high school students, when they studied and expanded their horizons and ambitions through extracurricular activities. This victory gave them additional confidence that the real potential of their idea was recognized, which paved the way for a much broader dimension of the process of innovation creation. Young researchers’ plan is to continue with the development of the idea and to test it on real ships soon.

Here’s the good news about Lara again!

POPRI International is an international competition for innovations and business ideas. The competition is held every year as part of the EUSAIR Forum which was held in Tirana this year.

The 7th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is an annual forum dedicated to connecting the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region. The event itself provides an opportunity to promote projects for the development of the region, as well as for connecting young people and presenting their ideas to influential people from the region.

As part of the delegation from our country, the PMF Student Team and their Lara Project, won the first place in the competition of the 9 best teams from each country in the region. It is important to mention that our high school team, which competed in the second category, also won gold.

The competition was opened by Giuseppe Di Paola (European Commission Policy Coordinator, EUSAIR DG Regio) and Edona Bilali, Albanian Minister of Entrepreneurship and Startups.

Welcoming speeches at the award ceremony were given by Mirela Koci (Auleda – Local Economic Development Agency), Tanja  Kožuh (Primorski Tehnološki Park) and Ruta Zarnauskaite (Head of the Research and Innovation Department of the European Commission).

Researchers from the Faculty of Sciences are again among the most cited scientists in the world in 2020

The list of 2% most cited scientists according to the Stanford List has been republished for lifelong citation rates and citations in 2020.

According to the citations in 2020, our Faculty has been represented on the list by Prof. Dr Neda Mimica Dukić (who is also ranked on the list for lifelong citations), Prof. Dr Dušan JakovetićProf. Dr Slobodan MarkovićAcademician Stevan Pilipović and Prof. Dr Ante Vujić.

These scientist rankings represent a great success and important recognition for their scientific research work, as well as confirmation of the relevance of their research topics and recognition on the international scientific scene.

Computer Science Students Won the First Prize in the Innovation Competition

The team “Pannonian Crew” from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, consisting of Aleksandar Rončević, Mihailo Milenković, Petar Kapriš and Vladimir Krsmanović, all Computer Science students, won the first place in the national competition for the best technological innovation in the category of student innovations. Last week, in the ceremonial hall of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, the competition finals were held in the category of Innovative Ideas, a subcategory of high school and student teams.

From the moment of the initial application, there were two qualification rounds in which business models as well as technical feasibility of innovations were analyzed. These talented young people, third-year students of Computer Science, even as high school students had contacts with associations such as Maker, through which they studied outside the classroom and expanded their horizons and ambitions. Although they study programming, they have very broad interests, from music and philosophy to electronics and economics. Vladimir Krsmanović had already been in contact with the shipbuilding industry and there he encountered the problem of overboard falls into the water from ships (Man-Overboard), which motivated him to work on this innovation.

Although the team “Pannonian Crew” gathered only for this competition, they individually have had competition experiences and brought success from other competitions such as national competitions in mathematics and programming, Google HashCode, Competition for the Best Technological Innovation in the high school category, etc.

This victory gave them additional confidence that there was real potential in their idea and that it was recognized, which paved the way for a much broader dimension of the innovation creation process. The plan of these young researchers is to continue developing the idea and to test it on real ships soon.
