The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad is a centre for university education and scientific research in all fields of physics in Vojvodina.
The studies are conducted by the renowned professors and their associates in classrooms and laboratories equipped with the latest teaching tools, laboratory and scientific equipment, definitely contributing to successful teaching.
- Chair of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
- Chair of General Physics and Methodology of Teaching Physics
- Chair of Nuclear Physics
- Chair of Physical Electronics
- Chair of Theoretical Physics
The studies at the Department of Physics are organised at all levels of university education:
Bachelor of Science Degrees
Master of Science Degrees
It comprises further professional development in nuclear physics, materials physics, plasma physics, and theoretical condensed matter physics, as well as in methodology of teaching of all fields of science, including physics.
The students are given an opportunity to visit one of 18 European universities within the Students’ Mobility Programme Campus Europae, while the possibilities of students’ exchange are being expanded constantly with the introduction of new destinations.
Our students participate at international and national conferences, whereas our teaching and research staff participate in scientific-research projects of international, national, and local level, conducting basic and applied research in the fields of both theoretical and experimental physics. For many years now, the Department has been cherishing successful co-operation with the international laboratories, one of which is CERN – the largest European laboratory for research in nuclear physics and high energies physics.
Everyone takes part with a lot of energy and enthusiasm in the science promoting events (Festival of Science, Researchers’ Night, Fame Lab, etc).
Professional Studies of Optometry
The main purpose of optometry is vision correction and discovering diseases that may affect human eye or vision. Optometrists may examine the eye, discover defects in vision, signs of injury, eye diseases or abnormality related to eyesight. Contemporary studies of optometry are based on fundamental sciences, optometric studies and practice and they are harmonised with European universities and standards. The classrooms are equipped with the latest teaching tools, laboratory and scientific equipment. Professional practice is an integral part of teaching process and a lot of time is devoted to it. Upon the completion of this study programme a student acquires the title of professional physicist – optometrist.
The lecturers are the leading experts from universities in Great Britain, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. There is the co-operation and partnership relation with the leading world companies in this field, such as Essilor, CIBA Vision, and Grand Seiko.
Academic education of physicists opens up a wide range of opportunities in their profession, such as working in scientific and development institutes, R&D departments in many companies, quality control, aviation, medical industry, and in all the companies which require measuring and the development of measuring methods, astronomy observatories, planetariums, hospitals, schools, banks, meteorological observatories, environmental protection institutes, in public administration, and generally in all the segments of contemporary industry.
Optometrists can find employment in private practice, eye clinics, and optical industry in general. Upon completion of their studies, the students may start up their own business in the field of eye optics and opticians’ shops and they also gained knowledge necessary for organisation of business operations, marketing, finances and economics, legal affairs and organisation, as well as in implementing measures of occupational health and safety and environmental protection related to their business activity in accordance with the valid legislation of the Republic of Serbia.
