About the department

The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad is the Vojvodina center for university teaching and scientific research in all areas of physics. Thanks to the enthusiasm of its scientists, the Department has gained wider recognition in the national and international scientific community. By establishing numerous contacts with world-class universities and scientific centers, the Department manages to contribute to modern knowledge in physics. Nurturing physics as a logical and rational basis of modern technical civilization, the Department has developed research teams in the fields of condensed matter physics, ionized gas physics, nuclear physics, and optometry. In addition to educational and scientific activities, the Department has two accredited laboratories providing services to the economy – the Laboratory for Radioactivity and Dose Measurements and the Laboratory for Calibration of Gamma Spectrometers and Activities of Radioactive Sources of Gamma Emitters.

Opportunities after graduation

Academic education of physicists opens up a wide range of opportunities in their profession, such as working in scientific and development institutes, R&D departments in many companies, quality control, aviation, medical industry, and in all the companies which require measuring and the development of measuring methods, astronomy observatories, planetariums, hospitals, schools, banks, meteorological observatories, environmental protection institutes, in public administration, and generally in all the segments of contemporary industry.

Optometrists can find employment in private practice, eye clinics, and optical industry in general. Upon completion of their studies, the students may start up their own business in the field of eye optics and opticians’ shops and they also gained knowledge necessary for organisation of business operations, marketing, finances and economics, legal affairs and organisation, as well as in implementing measures of occupational health and safety and environmental protection related to their business activity in accordance with the valid legislation of the Republic of Serbia.
