Mathematics and Informatics

Just after the first faculties in Novi Sad were founded in 1954, the study group for mathematics was established as part of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. For the next seven years, it was its only group from the field of sciences. In 1960, sciences are no longer taught at the Higher Pedagogical School in Novi Sad and the entire tertiary education in these fields is performed from that year on at the Faculty of Philosophy.  Until the building of the Institute of Physics and Mathematics was completed in 1963, the teaching process was performed in the building of the Faculty of Philosophy. Teachers and associates perform their work in one of the nine chairs:

  • Analysis, Probability and Differential Equations
  • Functional analysis, Geometry and Topology
  • Information Systems
  • Mathematical Logic and Discrete Mathematics
  • Numerical Mathematics
  • General Algebra and  Theoretical Computing
  • Applied Algebra
  • Applied Analysis
  • Computing Sciences

Education process is performed through primary, master and docotoral studies. There are three different study programmes as part of the primary level of studies:

  • Mathematics
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Informatics

Master studies comprise four different study programmes while PhD studies comprise two different study programmes:

  • MSc Applied Mathematics
  • MSc Mathematics
  • MSc Informatics
  • MSc Information technologies
  • PhD Informatics
  • PhD Mathematics
