Biology and Ecology

Even in 1946, Higher Pedagogical School in Novi Sad provided biology education for the prospective teachers of biology and chemistry at first, and then biology and physical education. In 1960, a decision was made to close Higher Pedagogical School and to establish a four-year biology studies at the Faculty of Philosophy. The first generation of students was enrolled in schoolyear 1961/62 and it had 18 full time students, the second generation had 33 students and after that it regularly enrolled 70 students each year.

 

The Faculty of Sciences was separated from the Faculty of Philosophy in 1969, and the building of the Institute of Biology was built in 1973 as part of University Campus at 2 Dositej Obradović Square (Liman I, Trg Dositeja Obradovića 2).

 

Together with the development of the Institute of  Biology, a library was developed which comprises 10,454 monographs with 7,849 titles, 301 journals, 93 PhD dissertations, 126 master (magister) theses, 15 specialization papers, and 1,401 final degree papers, which have been defended at the Department of  Biology and Ecology up to now.
